Save vs. Splurge: Makeup
With so much makeup floating around the universe, it’s tempting to pick the hottest foundation or the lipstick in a sweeter packaging then a drugstore version. Endless options means confusing times so let me help you get your life together with a quick cheat sheet on what you should spend your money on and where you can stash it away for a night out on the town with your girls.
This is the start and base of your makeup so you know it has to look good. A bad foundation with the wrong ingredients can make you oily where you don’t need to be. Go to a department store or a makeup store and spend some quality time getting to know a makeup artist. They’ll test, swatch and find the perfect shade for you. It’ll look natural and fit your skin just right. Also, your skin is practically eating it up. It absorbs the foundation just a little bit so be sure you’re feeding it with something it’ll enjoy.
With a variety of colors, textures and matte-sheen, don’t bog yourself down with trying to get something that will work with everything simply because it’s the best price. Go to your local drugstore and pick up an inexpensive blush. The best way to make the most out of more affordable brushes is to pick a powder one and a cream one. Choose a muted rose color cream blush to start then seal it with a powder blush in a similar color.
What did your skin ever do to you? Protect you! So protect it. Don’t try and test it with a cheap concealer that gets absorbed into your skin just like your foundation does. A good concealer will stay in place and do what it’s meant to like cover up a puffy face after watching a good but sad rom com. A good concealer is your ticket to take on the world like the PowerB!tch you are because it’ll give you the confidence to #doitall.
Save: Eye Shadows
Changing your shadows happens more than you’d think. Instead of throwing down $30 on a designer eyeshadow, pay a fraction of the price so you have more options to choose from. Definitely have a variety of browns, pinks and golds on hand for a quick and easy romantic or everyday go-to look.
A bad mascara will dry out your lashes and cause more harm than good. Invest in a good mascara that’ll leave your lashes looking luscious. A good wand will separate your lashes and help them look more voluminous as well.
Save: Lip Products
Again, this isn’t a staple piece, so you might want to be able to have 50 shades of pink. Choose colored lip balms or lipsticks and a variety of shades means you can change your look as often as you want. Did you know that a lot of the high-end designer makeup companies make drugstore versions that vary little if at all from the drugstore versions? #themoreyouknow
These are the tools you need to make your makeup work at its best. These tools can get pricey but instead of walking out of the house with pieces of brush hair all over your face, invest in a good brush that distributes makeup evenly without leaving any brush hair behind. Your staples include a powder brush, contour brush, blending brush, eyeshadow brush and blush brush. A good angle brush can help with eyebrows and eye lining as well.
People will never know that you’re wearing a $60 blush from a $6 blush so know where to invest your money so you can put your best face forward.
