10 Things We Learned About Ashley Rickards From Her New Book
Ashley Rickards’ debut book A Real Guide to Really Getting It Together Once and for All: (Really) is officially out today and we were lucky enough to get an advanced sneak peek! In the book, the Awkward star makes it her mission to help readers figure out their lives while sharing personal anecdotes of her own.
The actress has had her fair share of crazy and relatable moments, and uses her experiences to help readers from making the same mistakes. She touches on everything from how to manage money to the best ways to do your makeup and hair.
Her book is inspiring, helpful, and funny – and her advice is totally refreshing (her tagline, “This is not your mom’s guide to life,” couldn’t be more true!). Ashley uses the book as a way for her to open up to fans like she never has before and readers learn so much about her!

1) Ashley admits that she’s struggling with an eating disorder.
The Awkward star says that she’s currently on the right path to a healthy lifestyle, but it’s definitely been a struggle.
2) She was a child prodigy.
She’s actually a part of Mensa, which is a fancy club for people who have a high IQ in the top two percent.
3) She also has ADD (attention deficit disorder) and LD (learning disabled.)
In the early stages of her career she memorized her lines by “saying each line seven times and slowly adding another line to each repeat.” Eventually, she’ll “have gone through the whole scene about forty times.”
4) Her parents cut her off financially in the beginning years of Awkward.
At the time, she literally had $1.74 in her bank account and had to borrow money from her manager.
5) She didn’t talk to her parents for two years after that.
She’s back on good terms with them now.
6) She’s fluent in Polish.
Which she regards as a huge accomplishment since she was always told that her LD would hinder her.
7) She’s a skilled horseback rider.
And is “still involved in the equestrian community.”
8) Her first time bleaching her hair was a fiasco.
Demi Lovato actually recommended a salon she should go to to get it fixed.
9) She turned down the lead role for a major book-to-movie adaption.
Apparently the lead male actor in the movie was offended and said he “never heard of her before” to be a jerk. (She doesn’t name the film, but she gives plenty of clues!)
10) No one took a photo of her at the 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards because she had so much makeup on that they didn’t recognize her.
She did her own makeup and caked on a bunch of concealer. She also “overdrew my lips so much that I made wax Halloween lips looks like a subtle accessory.”
